We had a great time over February half-term with a trip to the cinema, seeing Cirque Berserk at the Birmingham Rep and a play day at Calthorpe Wellbeing Hub. A particular highlight was seeing Chris Cooper’s The Silence–a new play for young people held a shortwalk from our base in The Gap’s Basement Theatre at The OldPrint Works.
Our young people loved the intimate experience and the challenging content,of exploring the similarities of Birmingham after the pub bombings in 1976and current day afterWestminster and Manchester terror attacks. “I really enjoyed the play and issues it discussed. The play was really informative because I never realised Irish people had gone through the same discrimination many Muslims are going through today.
I found it educates people to not judge a person just on their religion or race, or on the actions of a select few within that community. The play showed the mass blame on these 2 communities. I enjoyed how the play was presented . It was interactive and quiet intimate with the audience. Which helped draw in the audience.
I liked how it was quiet serious and funny at the same time. The play is called silence and I could see how the concept of silences was integrated throughout the play, as silence is showed from different viewpoints.
